Our Cancer Journey

Jonathan is 31-years-old and has been battling stage IV Glioblastoma since November of 2018. His caregiver is his wife, Bethany. His daughter, Scarlett, is just a little over a year old! His oncology team at the University of Maryland knew that the opportunity for Jonathan to get away was not likely and wanted him to have the chance to make memories with his young daughter and wife while he still had the opportunity to laugh, play and experience precious moments with his wife and daughter! Johnathan needed some time for relaxation compared to dealing with the stressors of hospital visits and treatment. He simply wanted to be able to spend time with his wife and daughter and to have the chance to get his mind of his cancer diagnosis.

Our Break From Cancer

This beautiful family of three recently traveled to Davenport, FL, for their respite experience! Jonathan told us, “this respite was so refreshing; it helped me change my mindset to be more positive compared to constantly being fixated on cancer.

I cherish each moment spent with my family. We had the time of our lives.” The Butler family had a blast relaxing together -visiting attractions like Universal Studios and the Magic Kingdom. Still, most importantly, they had the chance to take a step back and enjoy the time they spent together! Johnathan also told us after he returned, “(this respite) gave me the time to take a step back and be thankful for all the support and good life that I have. I had the chance to enjoy the moment and truly live in those moments with my family.”

“This was life-changing to have this time with my wife and daughter,” Johnathan’s postcard to the team at FPS read, “thank you to everyone who helped to make this happen.” Thank you to our generous community for helping to fund airfare for families like the Butlers, they made memories that will last a lifetime!
