Joy and Her Family Enjoyed Every Moment!

“We laughed a lot, more than we have in a long time! It was exactly what we needed as a family.”

Our Cancer Journey

Joy’s Nominator from Saint Agnes Cancer Center in Baltimore, MD, “Before March of 2019, the Skiles family was just like any other family. Mrs. Skiles was an active stay at home mom for her three daughters, Abigail, Naomi and Jasmine. Since receiving the devastating news that Mrs. Skiles has metastatic lung cancer, things have been anything but normal.

Cancer has taken over the family and robbed them of joy and created much stress and worry.”When Joy started treatment for cancer, it changed their family dynamic. Josh, Joy’s husband, told us, “Some changes were obvious, like everyone in the house had to chip in to help with chores that mom used to do, and the household budget had to tighten up. Other changes were subtle but more profound, like the growing realization that Joy may not be around for many major family events in our future.”All the energy the Skiles had gone to cancer, treatment, worry and stress. They desperately needed the chance to get away and refocus on what matters –spending time together as a family!

Our Break From Cancer

Josh hoped that his children and wife would be able to make memories with their mother that would help them get through the tough times ahead –and they did just that on their respite in Ocean City, NJ! They had a blast checking out Gillian Wonderland, and just relaxing on the beach enjoying each other’s company!Joy told us, “I forgot that I have cancer and just enjoyed spending time with my family!

It was a much-needed break to recharge and have quality time with my kids and Josh. We laughed a lot, more than we have in a long time! It was exactly what we needed as a family.” Their break from cancer provided a spark of hope and joy that the family didn’t have before. Thank you to our home donors for your generosity, and for opening your homes and hearts to families like the Skiles family!
