A Labor Day Of Love

 In News

I hope you are enjoying a weekend with family, friends, and loved ones filled with summer fun, sunshine and picnics! September 1 always holds a special place in my heart because it is the day that my late husband and the founder of FPS, Pete Bossow, Jr., passed away from testicular cancer at the tender age of 30.

From that heartbreak came a dream that has impacted thousands of families. Pete dreamed that everyone facing cancer would have the chance to have respite: some time away to live, love, and laugh together during the arduous journey with cancer and be present in mind, body, and soul. We at For Pete’s Sake have put his dream into action, working with oncology professionals to create a Family Health Model that is proven to improve relationships and outcomes during the cancer battle.

As we send families to weeks of respite at Woodloch Resort this year we are hard at work laying the foundation for the nation’s first Cancer Respite Center! Our capital campaign is in full swing, site work is being completed and construction is set to begin in April 2026. We hope you’ll learn more about this initiative and join us!

While Pete was in treatment he made a bucket list, and near the top was “Play More Golf.” Our annual Peter R. Bossow, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament is fast approaching on September 15th, and this tournament has served as a celebration of Pete’s life for more than a quarter century. Hopefully I will get to see some of you there for a day of golf, giving, and great company. If you would like to join us or participate in our raffle or auction, you can learn more here.

Pete’s vision for respite has grown into something I never could have imagined. Thousands of people have benefited from respite, and we are on our way to realizing Pete’s dream of a Cancer Respite Center that will change the continuum of care for cancer patients.

Thank you for being a part of this community and for everything you do to support our mission. Happy Labor Day!

With gratitude,

Marci
