Makala Wine for FPS
brave. beautiful. bold.
Makala Ashmar was only 27 years old when she was diagnosed with cancer. Her oncology team nominated her for a Travel Respite through FPS that forever changed her life. She spent the rest of her years paying kindness forward, and before her passing in September 2020, she set in motion a legacy of gratitude. Working with FPS and The Wine Foundry in Napa California, she created her own wine blend that will forever give others a break from cancer.
The week prior to Makala’s passing, she met with the winemaker and discussed the blend that would excite her palate. Makala’s white wine is a blend of Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Viognier, and Chardonnay. This wine is the product of her dream and we think of Makala with every sip.
100% of the proceeds from Makala’s blend are donated by The Wine Foundry and its team to support the FPS mission of respite for families facing cancer. There are also a few other blends under the Makala label to purchase. A portion of proceeds from these wines are donated to FPS by The Wine Foundry.
Please spread the word and invite other friends and family to enjoy Makala’s wine. You’ll help us change lives! Thank you to the Wine Foundry for producing and offering these wines for purchase*. We are grateful for their commitment to the FPS
Please note: Due to DTC shipping regulations, the Wine Foundry cannot ship to: Arkansas, Delaware, Rhode Island, Mississippi, Utah
A note from Makala after she returned from her Travel Respite to Cancun:
“I was diagnosed with cholangrocarcinoma in 2018 – this diagnosis has weighed heavily on my family and myself. For the first four months, while so many other people were spending time on the beach or on vacation in the summer, me and my family faced ER visits, surgeries, procedures and chemo.
When I heard from my oncology team that I could take a break from cancer with For Pete’s Sake, I was so excited at the chance to just relax!
I didn’t want to come back from our trip because it was so perfect. The FPS community is filled with angels – I was not in a great spot when we left, and I returned with a renewed attitude. There are no words for how grateful I am for this experience.” – Makala
