Kilah and Her Family Found Hope

“The look on my kids faces were priceless and we remembered what is was to smile and laugh again.”

the Cancer Journey

“Paige faced breast cancer in 2015 and then again in 2017. She worked full-time throughout her treatment and supported her family members through health problems. Financial strain mounted as out-of-pocket costs grew. She pushed herself to provide support and resources for her children’s extracurricular activities. Recently, Paige had to stop working and her income is no longer available. A vacation would help this family enjoy a respite from several years of stress” – Paige’s Social Worker

the Break From Cancer

Paige and her family took part in a very special respite experience offered by For Pete’s Sake each summer. This respite is a group respite that takes place in a camp setting – where almost a dozen of our families come together to take a break in the beauty of nature. During this trip, relationships are connected and family building activities occur.

Paige told FPS, “My caregiver smiled and laughed for real while on our respite! That hasn’t happened in a long time. My energy levels came and went but for the most part, I was happy to keep up with the activities.

My kids loved it, it was life-changing for them. They were able to do all the things they loved to do, and had the freedom to do it. We loved the trip and would go back in a heartbeat. We all made lifetime friends and are so grateful.”
